The Los Angeles Lakers may not have had a first-round pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, but they still come with an interesting group of rookies.
One name to look out for is Cole Swider, the uncut sniper from Syracuse. Swider looked like a legitimate sniper during the Summer League, and his shooting abroad could set him up early to play for the parent team.
Swider has already adapted to the Hollywood lifestyle After he started a podcast with a college classmateIn the latest episode of “The Cole Swider Show with Paddy Casey” Swider recounted the first time he met LeBron James:
“The first time I met him was in the Summer League and yelling at Nick G and Cole, like it’s unreal because I and I are going to watch LeBron videos… It’s just unbelievable because being a LeBron fan and then being chosen by the same team.
“But the first time I met him was actually in the Summer League. He came to our first game in the Summer League and then he stayed in Vegas for two days and practiced. So I put my bags a little bit nearer to him and then he came and cut me off. He was like, ‘What’s up, Cole?'” And when he said, “What’s the matter, Cole?” I was like, “Wow, that’s unreal, he addressed me by my first name.” It makes sense why he would do that, but to me, it was unreasonable. Just meeting him was great, and then just seeing him Working out every day was unbelievable. His, M, Ross, they all have such a work-like approach. They do the same thing every day, they come in, they get their work, they leave, and then maybe they do other exercises. They probably have 70 more things with Their children, with their wives, with other engagements they have to go in. This money has certainly been well earned.”
Being James’ teammate was originally a shocker, but Swider tries to keep his confidence high around him and the other stars on the roster:
“I wouldn’t say Starstroke. I’d say to me it’s like, ‘Hey, you’ve worked your whole life for this.’ be yourself.’ If it’s not you, he’ll see it. You will smell it through BS. The first day I walked in there, I told LeBron and AD, “I’ll give you a space. I’m going to give you some space on the field guys, you can do what you can do. I think just going there with confidence, going there with the mindset just saying I’m not supposed to be here, so I’m going to go out there and prove everyone wrong. That’s what I tried to do in the Summer League and that’s what I’m going to try to do going forward.”
For Swider, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play with a living legend like James, and it should be fun to see if the two share the floor together this season.
The Lakers talk to the Jazz about Bojan Bogdanovic
While Swider can certainly shoot, the Lakers will likely prefer relying on their veterans. As far as trade objectives go, Los Angeles is reportedly still involved in a deal with the Utah Jazz for Bojan Bogdanovic.
