How Byron Pringle built chemistry with Justin Fields while he was abroad

Lake Forest – Upon entering training camp, the Bears were counting on Byron Pringle to grab the No. 2 reception spot versus Darnell Mooney and become a reliable target for quarterback Justin Fields.

But Pringle injured his quadriceps during a solo workout at training camp and missed the better part of the month, including all three pre-season games.

Pringle and Fields lost the critical time on the grass needed to build a relationship the sophomore quarterback could trust. But the veteran wide receiver did everything in his power to ensure he kept up with the bears’ attack growth while he was sidelined.

“Since I’ve been out of the house, I’ve been just trying to listen to the practice points, and communicate on the field, as if they were giving it to the other players,” Pringle said on Monday. “Just know I don’t try to be a step behind when I get back on the field, so I was attentive in the boardroom and listening to all the coaching Jetsie and the points Justin had to say to the parents.”

Pringle back to practice Limited capacity on Monday with fellow wide receiver Philos Jones Jr. and quarterback Lucas Patrick.

Despite his absence near last month, the 28-year-old sees an advantage for his time off the field.

“It was actually a big help to me,” Pringle said, “I was able to study more before I went out on the field. As much as I don’t know what to do, I feel good.”

As he gets more study during his downtime, Pringle knows he and Fields will have to work overtime to make sure their timing is set for Sunday.

“We have to play it after training,” Pringle said. “Even like, like, some ways you can turn. Some ways you can’t. Some, I might want to hook up in the window, like, in the zone, and some might like to carry on. I’ve got to keep talking about it, keep hooking up about it.” “.

When Pringle fell, he was fighting with Equanimeous St. Brown, Tajae Sharpe, Dante Pettis, and Jones to be the first to top the rankings behind Mooney.

Sharpe is now out of the year with a rib injury, while Jones has been out for nearly two weeks.

That left the Bears with only three healthy receivers who got an NFL pass last season. These three receivers–Money, St. Brown, and Betis–represent the Bears’ top three receivers when they take the field Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.

Pringle is not sure if he will be able to play on Sunday or if his comeback will wait for Week 2 against the Green Bay Packers. This is a decision the coaching staff will make based on Wednesday and Thursday practices.

But Pringle believes he will be able to make an impact on Sunday if staff give him the go-ahead.

He’s also confident that this Bears team has what it takes to go toe-to-toe with the best of the NFL.

“We have the guts, the hunger, the finishing touches,” Pringle said. “That’s the most important thing in being a championship or a playoff team, ending the plays.”

Boldness, hunger and fighting will be of the essence on Sunday when the 49ers come to Soldier Field.

Fields will need every weapon at his disposal to fight a fast and violent defense led by Nick Bossa and Fred Warner. Pringle speed is the type of weapon that can change the game in one game.

It’s something the Bears will be sorely missing if he can’t go on Sunday at the season opener.
