Over the years, the NBA has been fortunate to have some really special players on their pitches. From the likes of George Mikan, Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain in their early years to modern-day greats like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant, the league has always been in good hands.
Given all the greatness that fans have experienced over time, there are always comparisons of great players, even if it is very difficult to accurately compare them across different eras. It is a never-ending charm among fans, who will always amplify their favorites.
NBA fans debate about players coming off the bench in their prime
Hope Central recently asked a question on Twitter, asking who would sit on the bench between Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Larry Bird and Shaquille O’Neal if they were all in the primes. As you might expect, NBA fans had a lot to say on the matter.
“Anytime their drawing together, Steph and Shaq are locks. The attraction these two create together is the best combination we can think of”
“Honestly….Larry and LeBron, Larry Beacuse, Steve, and DKD could do what he’s doing in a higher clip.
“Kobe and Larry on the bench Durant is better than Larry in his prime.”
“There is no place here for Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant.”
“Shaq is the most dominant player ever to play and MJ is the best ever… I will never seat Kobe… STEPH is the greatest shooter… and LBJ is the second greatest… so KD and Bird have to go. ..”
“Bird doesn’t give me anything that a Kuwaiti dinars can’t give me. Kobe doesn’t give me anything that Jordan can’t give me. Kobe and Bird are on the bench.”
“Stephen Curry is so short and we already have Larry Bird as the dominant shooter”
“It’s easy to have Kobe and Larry on the bench, both of whom were really good players in their prime, but the most reasonable position is wise. Carrie is the only BJ so you have to start it up. Jordan at 2 BC is the best KB version. Bron and KD on 3 & 4. And Shaq as my hub”
“Definitely Larry and Steve. Athletics defenders easily take away their game. And their lack of sport would make them very confused.”
“Steve and either Kobe or Bird. The four of you should start are Shaq, Lebron, KD, and MJ.”
“Lebron at the one, bean at the two, mike at 3, kd at the 4, shaq”
“KD and Curry. MJ and Kobe are better guards. LeBron and Bird are better in attack.”
“LeBron and Durant….because of the fact that Mike, Kobe, Bird and Chuck are direct killers on the field with a win-any-cost mentality. Put that together with the greatest shooter in the history of the game in Steve……”
“Goodbye Carrie and MJ…focus on golf”
“If you’re running a squad you have to have Steve in his shot, and you have to have MJ and Bron for being the goats, then you have to play Shaq in the 5. I would say Kobe can play 3 while Lebron plays 4. Bird and Durant are off the bench. I could have seen Durant and Kobe too.”
The two left. Love KD but Larry is more physical JD people forget he was a walking bucket and are afraid of not. Curry might be affected by any defender all the time he just has a LeBron run point bell. You don’t need to shoot him 3 points when you have 4 great shooters From 3 points and vibrating in paint”
“I was on the bench KD and Kobe. Kobe is just a Jordan clone but he’s no good. Bird is the best KD passer and what this team would need. Steph, MJ, Bird, Bron and Shaq are pretty much the perfect lineup”
“If they play like today, I’ll say Shaq and Bird.. If they play like 80-90, I’ll say Steve & Durant.”
They split completely, with Michael Jordan probably the only one who has been a lock for nearly every team. This shouldn’t come as too surprising, of course, as he is widely regarded as the greatest player of all time. He dominated his competition in amazing fashion in the ’90s and there will never be another competitor like him.
Everything we just mentioned is made Jason Williams’ claim that Jordan will struggle to score in the NBA today more unusual. Given how easy the rules of the game nowadays are to score, it was really strange to say and Chris Broussard called him upas did many others.
